On July 20, 2026, women leaders serving in traditional cabinets across four Local Government Areas in Enugu State came together for a capacity strengthening training on Budget Tracking and Public Office Engagement. The training was designed to equip women with the knowledge and skills to engage more effectively in public decision making and promote accountability in the use of public resources.
Organized by the Women Empowerment Education and Peace Building Initiative (WEPBI), the session sought to strengthen women’s capacity to understand the budgeting process, track public spending, and ensure that government resources address the needs of their communities, particularly those of women and girls.
The training opened with inspiring remarks from WEPBI’s Executive Director, who reminded participants that when women lead with purpose, communities thrive. She encouraged the women to use their positions in traditional cabinets to influence decisions and advocate for the transparent and accountable use of public resources.
The technical session was facilitated by Nzekwe Henrietta Achi, who simplified the budgeting process and guided participants on how budgets are developed, how to track public expenditure, and how to confidently participate in town hall meetings and engage relevant stakeholders to promote accountability.
Reinforcing the call to action, WEPBI Communications Manager, Ogechi Ewoh, encouraged the participants to translate their learning into action by actively participating in budget tracking from the planning stage and using their leadership positions to drive positive change within their communities.
By the end of the training, the women committed to putting their knowledge into practice. They pledged to actively participate in budget tracking from the planning stage, engage relevant stakeholders, and promote accountability within their communities. To support these commitments, each participant developed a timeline to guide implementation in the months ahead.
