The Government of Imo State, through one of its agencies, the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), shut down all bank branches around Bank Road in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Tuesday over alleged failure to open on Monday, a day slated in the South East for sit-at-home in other to protest Nnamdi Kanu’s detention.
Polaris Bank, Access Bank PLC, Skye Bank, Union Bank, First Bank, Heritage (Enterprise) Bank, Keystone Bank, and EcoBank were among the banks affected.
Hundreds of customers were trapped at the time of reporting this story at the branches of the affected banks in the State, which are currently under lock.
Customized ribbons were used in sealing the bank premises by the government officials as early as 7am on Tuesday 7th September 2021, as reported by daily post.
Some of the bank employees confirmed that Owerri Capital Development Authority Operatives had locked the banks whereas the Special Adviser on Local Print, Mr. Modestus Nwankpa said the banks were closed due to building permission plans, not because they failed to open on Monday as claimed.
