2 Out of the Remaining 98 Abducted Chibok Girls Escapes From Captors

Two among the remaining 98 Chibok school girls have escaped from their captors in the Sambisa forest in Borno State.

According to a source the escape was made possible as a result of intense military operations in the forest.

Meanwhile, a security source identified the escapees as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus.

“One is from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village,” the source added.

This has reduced the number of Chibok schoolgirls in captivity from 98 to 96.

The abduction of 276 female students from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014, brought the plight of children in the North-East Nigeria to the forefront of international attention. The Chibok girls became a symbol of the conflict’s devastating impact on children, in particular, girls, and their continued captivity nine years later is a reminder that the crisis is far from over.
