WEPBI<\/strong> today, March 21, 2025, carried out a follow-up outreach in Ugba-Edogiri community, Enugu East Local Government Area<\/strong>, under its One Girl One Pad Initiative. Recognizing the urgent need to support young women and girls with menstrual hygiene education and essential sanitary products, WEPBI returned to the community to reinforce its commitment to ending period poverty.<\/span><\/p>\n

This impactful visit was made possible with the generous support of the Nigerian Army Officers\u2019 Wives Association (NAOWA) 82 Division Chapter<\/strong>. WEPBI deeply appreciates NAOWA for their dedication to ensuring young girls have access to menstrual hygiene products and proper education on menstrual health.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the visit, WEPBI\u2019s Executive Director, Ijeoma Joy Oguadimma<\/strong>, spoke passionately to the young women and girls, emphasizing the importance of education and personal development. She strongly discouraged early sexual relationships that could lead to unwanted pregnancies and limit future opportunities. Additionally, she addressed young mothers, stressing the importance of family planning and responsible parenting.<\/span><\/p>\n

A medical practitioner, Nurse Uzor Chinaza Blessing<\/strong>, led a practical session on menstrual hygiene, demonstrating proper sanitary pad usage, disposal, and the importance of frequent changes to prevent infections. Oluchi Ezeh<\/strong>, a development specialist, encouraged the women to embrace economic empowerment, emphasizing that financial independence can help them better support their families.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of free sanitary pads to young girls, a crucial step in ensuring they manage their periods with dignity. Many of the girls expressed relief, as access to menstrual products remains a significant challenge in their community.<\/span><\/p>\n

WEPBI remains committed to breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensuring that no girl misses out on opportunities due to period poverty. Through the One Girl One Pad Initiative, WEPBI has reached over 3,000 young women and girls, but there is still so much more to be done.<\/strong> This initiative is one of WEPBI\u2019s key programs geared towards providing menstrual hygiene products for young women and girls, especially those in rural areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

To expand this initiative and reach more underserved communities, WEPBI is calling for more support from individuals, organizations, and stakeholders.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
