During the campaign, Francia said that the great challenge that they all have in Colombia is reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe time has come to build peace, a peace that implies social justice\u201d the 40-year-old said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a great day for the people of the central Bogota, especially youth who rejoiced for the new development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Lusimar Asprilla, he said to the newsmen that he is celebrating because finally they are going to have change. \u201cThis shows that there is hope\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Petro also made history by being elected as the first-ever-wing president of Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was able to defeat millionaire businessman Rodolfo Hernandez in a tense and unpredictable runoff election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the all votes were counted, Petro, the 62-year-old former Mayor of Bogota, won with 50.4 per cent to Hernandez\u2019s 47.3 per cent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
