WEPBI Launches Graça Machel Trust’s Pan-African Adolescent Girls Movement in Nigeria, Trains First 100 Young Eagles

Women Empowerment Education and Peace Building Initiative (WEPBI) has officially launched the Graça Machel Trust’s Pan-African Adolescent Girls Movement (PAGM) in Nigeria, with funding support from the Graça Machel Trust. With this launch, Nigeria becomes the 10th African country to roll out this transformative initiative aimed at strengthening adolescent girl-led leadership across the continent.

Ahead of the national launch, a group of carefully selected young facilitators participated in a rigorous three-day training based on Module One of the PAGM curriculum. The training equipped them with the skills and knowledge needed to mentor and guide their peers confidently and effectively.

With this strengthened capacity, the trained facilitators successfully delivered the first round of sessions to the inaugural cohort of 100 adolescent girls, known as the Young Eagles. Through interactive activities and discussions, the girls explored themes such as leadership, identity, confidence building, rights awareness, and the vision of the Pan-African Adolescent Girls Movement.

The launch event further deepened understanding of the movement’s objectives, expectations, and long-term impact, reinforcing WEPBI’s commitment to creating safe spaces, amplifying girls’ voices, and nurturing a new generation of empowered young leaders.

This milestone marks a bold step forward for adolescent girls in Nigeria, as the country joins other African nations in advancing continental girl-led advocacy and meaningful participation through the support and vision of the Graça Machel Trust.
