NAOWA 82 Division Chapter Partners with WEPBI to Commemorate International Women’s Day

The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) 82 Division Chapter, in partnership with the Women Empowerment Education and Peace Building Initiative (WEPBI), commemorated International Women’s Day 2024 with an impactful event held at the 82 Division Headquarters, Enugu, on March 14, 2024.

The event was graced by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, who delivered a thought-provoking speech on the state of women’s rights globally. He emphasized the critical role of education in empowering women and highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and financial support for women’s economic growth. He concluded by advocating that women should not only be celebrated in March but every day of the year.

A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion on the general well-being of women, which provided insights into the various challenges women face and strategies for improving their overall health, financial stability, and personal development.

Additionally, there was a presentation on Personal Development by the Executive Director of WEPBI, Ijeoma Joy Oguadimma, offering valuable insights into self-growth and empowerment. Another powerful session on Maternal Health and Postpartum Depression was delivered by Dr. Osuorah Chitoo Stephanie from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. She stressed the importance of prioritizing women’s well-being, particularly during pregnancy and childbirth, noting that postpartum depression can affect any woman.

The event also featured an inspiring playlet on the importance of girl-child education, performed by women in attendance.

The Chairperson of NAOWA 82 Division Chapter, Mrs. Oritseseyisan Adeola Olaoye, expressed her belief that the event significantly contributed to building both the mental and physical capacity of women. She further encouraged sister agencies to organize more initiatives that promote women’s empowerment.

A special moment of the event was the presentation of recognition awards to distinguished individuals for their contributions to women’s development. Among the honorees was Ijeoma Joy Oguadimma, the Executive Director of WEPBI, who was recognized for her relentless efforts in advocating for women’s rights and empowerment.

The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the collective commitment to Accelerate Action towards gender equality and uplifting women in all spheres of life.
