Women empowerment Education and Peace building Initiative WEPBI has trained some women from Ndeabo in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu state on the helms of political participation.
The training is part of the Women’s Voice and Leadership (WLV) project sponsored by Global Affairs and supported by Action Aid Nigeria, which aims at increasing women’s participation in politics and leadership.

The training which took place at the palace of the traditional ruler of the community on the 19th of July 2022, recorded the presence of women leaders of the community who came out to gain the knowledge that will strengthen their skills in political affairs.
Introducing the training, the program officer of WEPBI, Miss. Loveth Ugochukwu, who represented the Executive Director of the organization Ugoadimma Ijeoma Joy, urged the participants to be attentive to lecture and grab all that will be thought to them.

The facilitator of the training, Dr. Samuel Okpan, introduced the topic to the participants telling them that with the introduction done, he has gotten a clue that some of them have had little information about politics and some of it intricacies.
Going further, Dr. Sam raised a question to the women asking them which areas women can participate in politics. In response immediately to the question one of the women said that all political position can be handled by women.

They also answered the question of what challenges that militate against their participation in politics. They mentioned; lack of resources, lack of internal democracy, family issues coming from husbands and political violence.
The facilitator also added some factors like women’s lackadaisical attitude towards politics, discriminatory laws in the community and others.
The training recorded a lot of success as all the women showed their interest and expressed their interest in politics saying that they all are members of political party and also has their permanent voters’ card.
‘We are now willing to support each other to make sure women comes close to taking up political position’ the women said.

The women were overwhelmed as they wished they can see Global Affairs Canada and Action Aid Nigeria face to face to appreciate them. To WEPBI, they prayed that God continue to strengthen them to do more for the society.
