Black woman Emerges Colombia’s Vice President

History has been made as Colombia elects black women as it’s Vice President.

 Francia Marqueze, an environmental activist will serve the country alongside Ex-guerrilla Gustavo Petro who won the county’s presidential election.

During the campaign, Francia said that the great challenge that they all have in Colombia is reconciliation.

“The time has come to build peace, a peace that implies social justice” the 40-year-old said.

It was a great day for the people of the central Bogota, especially youth who rejoiced for the new development.

According to Lusimar Asprilla, he said to the newsmen that he is celebrating because finally they are going to have change. “This shows that there is hope”, he said.

Petro also made history by being elected as the first-ever-wing president of Colombia.

He was able to defeat millionaire businessman Rodolfo Hernandez in a tense and unpredictable runoff election.

After the all votes were counted, Petro, the 62-year-old former Mayor of Bogota, won with 50.4 per cent to Hernandez’s 47.3 per cent.
