The Executive Director Oguadimma Ijeoma Joy and other WEPBI team on Tuesday 17th August 2021 paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Oji Amokwe community HRH, Igwe Arc Innocent Sunday Chibuoke in his palace at Oji Amokwe. The aim of the visit is to ensure that women are included in the cabinet as part of decision makers and this was as a result of the dialogue between the traditional rulers and town hall executives on the inclusion if women in the cabinet held on the 17th of June, 2021.
Following the visit, HRH Igwe Arc Innocent Sunday Chibuoke stated that he is in support of the idea of women inclusion in the leadership spaces however, out of 22 men in his cabinet no single woman is part of it; he gladly said that he will be the happiest person if women are included in his cabinet. But in other to achieve this, he needed to be sure that women if given the chance are ready to take up the steer of leadership as they make better leaders than men.
However, the Igwe explained that one of the major challenges facing the inclusion of women in the cabinet is culture. He explained that women needs to be culturally rooted so as to be able to make better members of the cabinet.
He promised to start by including two women in his cabinet by 2022 explaining that he is going to use lobbying as a strategy to convince his cabinet members to welcome the idea. He pointed out that there are twenty-two cabinet members in his cabinet which are currently all men and that having two women and twenty men is a fair deal for a start which the men may not contest heavily.
Igwe however expressed his gratitude on the efforts WEPBI is making in ensuring that women are included in the cabinet.
