Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria Project Closes Out with Success in Enugu State

The Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria project celebrated its close-out and dissemination meeting in Enugu State on July 9, 2024, at the Amadeo Event Centre. The event marked a significant milestone in the project’s journey, highlighting the achievements made in promoting gender equality and women empowerment.

The event saw a large turnout of dignitaries, including representatives from Global Affairs Canada, ActionAid Nigeria, various women groups, traditional rulers, government officials, lead women rights organizations, community-based organizations, and community women. The media was also present, covering the event and helping to amplify the project’s impact and success.

In his speech, Mr. Celestine, Head of Programs at ActionAid Nigeria, representing the Country Director, emphasized the crucial role of women in societal development. “Women are the bedrock of any society, and investing in their rights has a profound impact on sustainable development,” he stated. Mr. Celestine also highlighted the strong collaboration between ActionAid Nigeria and the state government in promoting gender equality and women empowerment.

The Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria project has made significant strides in Enugu State. One of the major highlights of the event was the presentation of success stories by Miriam Menkiti, Executive Director of Women Information Network (WINET). Her presentation showcased the tangible impacts and positive changes brought about by the project in the state.

The Adanta Cultural Troupe also graced the event with their presence, delivering a very energetic dance performance that entertained and delighted the guests, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the proceedings.

In the closing remarks, Oguadimma Ijeoma Joy, Executive Director of Women Empowerment Education and Peace Building Initiative, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the project. She acknowledged their dedication, hard work, and passion, which have been instrumental in the project’s success. “Together we have made history, and together we will continue to create a brighter and more equitable future for all,” she stated

The Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria project is a 5-year initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada and supported by ActionAid Nigeria. It has a presence in six states across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T). The project’s close-out event in Enugu stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the commitment to advancing women’s rights and gender equality.

The successful completion of the project in Enugu State not only highlights the progress made but also sets a strong foundation for future endeavors aimed at empowering women and promoting sustainable development.
