In a compassionate move, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, assures full rehabilitation for the Al-Kadriyar sisters recently rescued from abduction in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). During her visit to the facility where the girls are undergoing medical treatment, the minister expressed dismay at the ordeal the girls faced at the hands of their abductors.
Promising complete support, Kennedy-Ohanenye outlined plans for the girls’ reintegration into society, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to closely monitoring their recovery. As part of the rehabilitation process, a psychologist will be engaged to address the trauma endured during captivity.
The minister also revealed plans to collaborate with the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC), ensuring that one of the girls completes her one-year national service with the Ministry of Women Affairs. In a bid to enhance their safety, she suggested relocating the girls to a more secure environment, shielding them from potential vulnerabilities.
Kennedy-Ohanenye commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for their intelligence-driven efforts that led to the girls’ release. Expressing President Ahmed Tinubu’s concern over rising kidnapping cases, she affirmed ongoing efforts to address the situation.
After the visit, Kennedy-Ohanenye pledged to update President Tinubu and the First Lady on the girls’ condition. Grateful for the minister’s visit and the security agencies’ collaborative efforts, the father of the girls, Mr. Monsoor Al-Kadriyar, extended heartfelt thanks for their daughter’s release.
