In a video that circulated on social media last Friday, a woman was captured engaged in a heated confrontation with a group of armed police officers on a highway. She accused them of causing injuries to her sister, who, as shown in the video, had visibly bleeding lips.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, vehemently pointed fingers at the officers, stating, “These are Nigerian Police officers. Look at what they’ve done to my sister’s mouth. They inflicted severe injuries on her, and instead of helping, you’re recording me. After harming my sister, did you find anything suspicious in her bag? Nothing!”
On Monday, the police issued a statement through their official handle, confirming that the officers involved in the incident had been identified and were currently in custody as part of an ongoing investigation. They emphasized their commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial inquiry into the matter.
Furthermore, the police urged the woman featured in the video to come forward and provide her perspective on the incident to ensure transparency and a comprehensive understanding of the situation. The statement read, “We wish to inform the public that the police officers allegedly linked to the video incident have been identified and are presently in custody as part of our ongoing investigation. We are dedicated to conducting a fair and thorough examination of this case.”
“To ensure transparency and gather all relevant viewpoints, we urgently request the woman seen in the video to please step forward and share her side of the story. Your input is vital in helping us gain a complete understanding of the circumstances. Your safety and well-being are our utmost priorities. Kindly contact @PoliceNG_Rivers or reach us at 08036219523, or alternatively, visit the Rivers State Police Headquarters to provide your personal account and any additional pertinent information,” the statement concluded.
