WEPBI Milestones

WEPBI Milestones: Paving the Way for Women in Traditional Leadership in Enugu State, Nigeria
In Enugu, Nigeria, WEPBI has sparked a transformative shift. Traditionally, women were excluded from traditional cabinets and decision-making due to deep-seated taboos. To address this issue, WEPBI conducted research, partnered with Open Political Science, and engaged traditional leaders in dialogue, challenging these norms.

The results are groundbreaking. WEPBI successfully altered the narrative, with 137 women now part of traditional cabinets, 37 as town union executives, and 31 in neighborhood watch committees. This empowers women in traditional leadership roles and promotes community development by eliminating harmful practices. WEPBI’s journey exemplifies the power of dedication and advocacy in reshaping deeply entrenched traditions, inspiring change in Enugu and beyond.

Our Exclusive Features

Empowering Women

When women know their rights, first as humans, then as wives and mothers, they better appreciate the effort of creating an ambience of love and peace in the home, and supporting the economic status of the family.

Develop For Work

The participation of women in development programmes is well documented in the last two decades in the developed world. In the developing countries, however, such studies are still very scanty and fragmented as the roles of women in development efforts are hardly acknowledged..

Women Investment

Women typically invest in their families and communities significantly more than men – spreading wealth and increasing the quality of life for themselves and their families.
